Rosehill Recycled Water Scheme - Jemena

The Project

The project has three main parts:

  • The water recycling plant
  • A recycled water distribution network
  • Recycled water storage reservoirs

The proposal has been designed to deliver recycled water to key customers in a cost effective way while minimising potential impacts to the community and the environment.

A schematic map of the network is shown below:

The Water Recycling Plant

A water recycling plant will be constructed at the corner of North Street and East Parade, Fairfield. This site is next to the existing Sydney Water stormwater treatment plant and is zoned for water infrastructure. This site was chosen in consultation with Sydney Water and Fairfield City Council being close to the Liverpool to Ashfield Pipeline that will provide secondary treated effluent to the plant, has sufficient area for construction and is close to key customers.

Water Storage Reservoirs

Two reservoirs are needed across the distribution network to store recycled water. These reservoirs will be located at Woodville Golf Course Guildford and at Rosehill.

Woodville Golf Course site was selected in consultation with Parramatta Council and the Department of Planning and allows for the delivery of recycled water through gravity to customers at Rosehill.

The Rosehill site was selected through negotiation with landowners and proximity to customers at Rosehill and will assist future expansion to the Parramatta and Westmead areas.

The Distribution Network

The distribution network for the recycled water main will be built under roads and public reserves. The distribution network runs through 15 suburbs in four local government areas (Fairfield, Bankstown, Holroyd and Parramatta). The alignment of the network has been chosen to link the proposed water recycling plant at Fairfield with the customers in the Rosehill and Smithfield areas.
